Forged Cylinders, Sleeves and Blind Hole Cylinders

Forged Cylinders

All Metals & Forge Group produces forged sleeves, forged cylinders and blind hole cylinders in a variety of shapes and sizes. Blind hole cylinders do not have an inside diameter that travels all the way through the length, the blind hole is achieved by boring or back extrusion process.

Alloys used to Forge Cylinders

  • Carbon steel
  • Alloy steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Titanium
  • Nickel
  • Aluminum
  • tool steel

Disc & Hub Maximum Diameters

  • Using carbon, alloy and stainless steel: max diameter is 84 inches with a maximum length of 108 inches
  • Using nickel and super alloys: max diameter is 50 inches with a maximum length of 65 inches
  • Using aluminum: max diameter is 72 inches with a maximum length of 96 inches
  • Using titanium: max diameter is 52 inches in titanium with a maximum length of 65 inches.

Forged Cylinder Ratios

The maximum length of forged sleeves, forged cylinders and blind cylinders is restricted by the wall thickness and outside diameter.  If the ratios exceed tolerances, the cylinder can either collapse in on itself or take on a whiskey barrel shape where the center begins to bow outward during the forging process.  Your All Metals & Forge Group Sales Consultant will be able to determine if your cylinder ratios exceed tolerances.
