General Characteristics of AISI 1010
AISI 1010 is a low-carbon alloy appropriate in sheet and strips for deep drawing, carburized and structural applications. AISI 1010 is ideal for the automobile industry, where it frequently is used for auto bodies, fenders, and smaller parts including pans and transmission covers.
Chemical Composition of AISI 1010
- Carbon 0.08-0.13
- Manganese 0.30-0.60
- Phosphorus 0.040 max
- Sulfur 0.050 max
- Silicon 0.10 max
- Iron balance
Heat Treatment of AISI 1010
- Normalize at 1725° to 1775°F (941° to 968°C) before air cooling
- Anneal at 1650° to 1750°F (899° to 954°C) before furnace cooling
- Harden at 1650° to 1700°F (899° to 927°C) before quenching in water, brine or caustic
- Can be case hardened

Machinability of AISI 1010
- Cold worked: 55% rating
- Hot rolled: 40% rating
Workability of AISI 1010
- Low ductility, uniform composition
- Appropriate for moderate deformation
- Use aluminum killed cold rolled sheets and strips when forming or drawing
