General Characteristics of Magnesium AZ61A

Magnesium AZ61A is a magnesium extrusion alloy appropriate for hollow and solid shapes. Stronger than AZ31B-F, magnesium AZ61A was previously referred to as Dowmetal type J1, offering toughness and cold formability.

Heat Treatment of Magnesium AZ61A

  • Stress relief anneal at 500°F (260°C)
  • Fully anneal at 650°F (343°C)
  • Not heat treatable
